North London Kitchen

Project Brief

Storage and entertainment were the two key factors while designing this space. The client wanted to incorporate an open plan living/dinning area that could easily ‘spill out’ into their garden when they were entertaining. This did mean that they would need storage for additional crockery they used for their guests.

Placing an island in the middle, with circulation space either side, meant the client could cook and entertain all at once, and still keep an eye on the guests outside! Additional storage was incorporated under the breakfast bar area, where ‘non-everyday’ items could be placed, but still easily accessed when needed.

With a separate integrated fridge and freezer, two ovens, a downdraft hob, wine cooler, hot tap and filter, the kitchen was ready for the clients social affairs. Since the kitchen was situated within an extension, we opted for a very minimal and clean feel; a handless kitchen with a slab door, playing on the lighting and shadows already created in the space. Two tone grey units, with the island in the darker grey and dark quartz wrap around, to make it the focal point of the space. We then used marble tiles to lift the whole area, especially when the natural light from the skylights would reflect.
